Oranges in Chinese Honey Syrup
Ingredients:
- 4 medium oranges
- 1 tablespoon (level) Nelson's Honey Dew Honey,
- 1 teaspoon star anise
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, or 1 stick
- 1 teaspoon (level) Cardamom, Ground
- 1 medium Lemon, juice and zest
Instructions:
- Peel off some strips of orange peel using a swivel potato peeler. Place the orange strips in a small saucepan with the Nelson's honey, 4 tablespoons of water, the star anise, cinnamon stick and cardamoms. Heat until boiling, then remove.
- Now cut the peel and white pith from the oranges and slice the fruit into thin half moons. Save any juices from the orange and add it to the syrup as it cools.
- Mix the lemon zest and lemon juice into the syrup. Trickle this over the oranges and cover and chill for at least 2 hours, preferably longer. Before serving, remove the whole spices and orange strips or warn diners to pick them out. Serve slightly chilled.
